Jazzin’ At The Mardi Gras is Dart Valley Stompers fifth C.D. issued during their Fifth anniversary year. I think that it is their best C. D. so far and, once word gets out about how good it is, it won’t be long before it’s sold out. After five years together, Dart Valley Stompers are getting better all the time, if that’s possible, and this latest C.D certainly proves the point.
Of the fourteen tracks, all but one (Love Nest) are familiar standards and are, as usual played with great enthusiasm and class. Six of the tracks feature the vocal styles of Jeremy Huggett and Ron Milford.
This is another great C.D. featuring the usual top class ensemble playing and solo renditions from the opening number, “Salutation March”, the opening bars of which really are reminiscent of a marching band, through to the end of “Fidgety Feet”.
Excellently recorded and presented with cover artwork that is superbly matched to the title. Jazzin’ At The Mardi Gras is thoroughly recommended as a must buy and is available at all the bands sessions or can be ordered from Maria Huggett by phoning her on 01884 35563.

The Spirit Of New Orleans is Dart Valley Stompers fourth C.D. and I consider it to be another destined for a sell-out sooner rather than later. The band has definitely benefited from almost four years of playing together and is (and has been for some time) an extremely tight and efficient unit gaining popularity year by year with many repeat bookings from Jazz Clubs and Festivals.
Six vocals numbers are included in the thirteen tracks, all played with verve by six fine musicians who really have captured
The Spirit Of New Orleans.
This is another great C.D. made for foot tapping listening from the opening number, “Algiers Strut” through to the end of “Forty And Tight”. A superb, intoxicating, swinging session from the excellent Dart Valley Stompers.
As usual, well recorded and presented with cover art work that is very eye catching, The Spirit Of New Orleans is thoroughly recommended as great listening and is available at all the bands sessions or can be ordered from Maria Huggett by phoning her on 01884 35563.

The Dart Valley Stompers have maintained a high standard of musicianship for many years. This latest CD, played in the spirit of New Orleans, exhibits a delight in performing. Happiness pervades, the whole session recorded this year at the Bude Jazz Club and the band, led by Graham Trevarton, plays with a smile on its face.
Jeremy Huggett, the band leader, is lyrical on clarinet and saxophone melody flowing throughout. On trombone Ron Milford is inventive in the ensemble work and his sols smooth and thoughtful. The rhythm section, John Whitlock, Tony Mann and Ron Berry encourage the front line to ride along with its steady, never failing beat. John Whitlock’s switch from banjo to guitar provides a welcome variety to the rhythm. Listening to the previous three CD’s from the Dart Valley Stompers consistency of performance shows throughout.
The three vocalists acquit themselves very well, but it’s a shame their individual presentations are not listed on the insert.
At the risk of being repetitive, this CD is a real joy. Regular supporters of this band will be pleased with the choice of music, captured live by David Baker. It would be almost impossible to find fault – arrange a purchase today!

After their formation in July 2005, Dart Valley Stompers have quickly become established as a band to be reckoned with and also attracted quite a following.
Just a glance of the tunes selected is confirmation that the band will be
producing the genre of Jazz to match their objective to play top class New Orleans and Traditional Jazz and after listening to the opening tracks of this, their first recorded session, it is more than obvious that the objective has been achieved with style.
There are many excellent solo renditions throughout, not surprising considering the pedigree of the individual musicians. However, what is surprising is the superb ensemble playing for such a new band which, to me indicates just how well have, not only the musicians been selected, but also of how comfortable they are as a unit.
The admirable front line is well backed by a very good rhythm section
resulting in over an hour and a quarter's enjoyable, foot tapping entertainment. I think that "Muskrat ramble" and the title track, "Down by the riverside" epitomises the band's chosen style very well.
An impressive debut C.D. from a band that is surely destined to become very busy in the near future. Recommended as a good buy, telephone 01884 35563 to order a copy.

This is The Dart Valley Stompers second C.D. recorded almost exactly a year after their formation and what a tremendous birthday present they have prepared for their, now legion of, fans throughout the South West and beyond.
Again the tunes selected and, more importantly the interpretation and presentation of those tunes, is confirmation that the band do produce the genre of Jazz to match their objective to play top class New Orleans and Traditional Jazz.
There are twelve tracks on this C.D. each one an entertaining foot tapping experience with many excellent solo instrumental and vocal renditions throughout. Also, not surprisingly, the ensemble playing is superb.
I thoroughly enjoyed this C.D. with, as far as I'm concerned, twelve tracks that defy me to pick out a favourite, they're all great.
A very impressive second C.D. from a band that is becoming very popular and busy, don't miss an opportunity to see them live. If you're not able to see the band then listen to them on this excellent C.D. Minnie The Mermaid that is recommended as a good buy,
especially if you like happy foot tapping entertaining Jazz.
