Join the Dart Valley Stompers on their visit to Santoña, Green Spain in Autumn 2008. It’s called Green Spain on account of the lush scenery which comprises golden, sandy beaches which are backed by meadows crossed by tumbling streams, maize fields, apple orchards and in the background are the peaks of the Picos de Europa mountain range that stretches from the Mediterranean across the north of Spain to peter out in northern Portugal.
We leave on Sunday on the 1600 Plymouth to Santander sailing . A cabin with private facilities is included. We anticipate that the Band will play during the crossing. On arrival in Santander we drive the short distance to Santoña and expect to arrive around 1330. After checking-in a tapas lunch will be served.
We’re staying at the 4* Hotel Juan de la Cosa which is situated on a vast sandy beach. (www.hoteljuandelacosa.com). The very spacious rooms are extremely comfortable and the hotel has a small indoor swimming pool, bar and terrace. Naturally, all rooms have private facilities. It enjoys a fine reputation for its cuisine. On the next three nights, after dinner in the hotel, the Band will play for your enjoyment.
On the third day we head eastwards to Castro Urdiales, a charming fishing port and resort where we will spend the morning. In the early afternoon we return to the hotel and call into Laredo, a larger resort just across the bay from our hotel.
On the fourth day we head up into the foothills of the Picos de Europa by way of the Besaya Valley and we make a sightseeing halt in the mountain village of Reinosa. We now traverse the Ebro Dam and make our way to Cabarceno Wildlife Park for an interesting visit before returning to the hotel for dinner and entertainment.
On the Thursday we leave the hotel after breakfast and drive to the outskirts of Santander and stop at the Eroski Hypermarket. After this pause there’ll be some time for sightseeing in Santander before we catch the 1530 sailing to England. This reaches Plymouth at 0930 on Friday.
The cost includes: all travel by executive coach; ferry crossing ; three nights at a 4* hotel and dinner with wine on three nights; buffet breakfast; tapas lunch; cabin on cruise-ferry; entertainment by the Band; all excursions; entrance to Cabarceno Wildlife Park; local Tour Escort
